One of England’s most iconic, and arguably toughest duathlons returns to Carsington Water on Sunday 17th October
The Derbyshire Duathlon (previously called the Ashbourne Duathlon) sees the standard distance athletes tackle a 12km undulating lap around the reservoir before heading out on to a two-lap scenic bike course around the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Due to the installation of traffic lights at Middleton Top, the bike course has now been revised to tackle the formidable climb of West End and Hopton Lane out of Wirksworth village, a 1km climb that averages 9%, on each lap.
After completing that lung bursting bike challenge, competitors will be pleased to see that the second run is a short 3.8km flat blast across the dam wall and back.
The Sprint distance uses the dam wall, out and back course for both runs and just completes a single lap of the bike course.
This race has been won by legends of the sport, including Benny Vansteelant, Tim Don, Will Clarke, and Matt Moorhouse, and in 2003 was used for PowermanUK. The return of this event to the UK calendar is a real boost to the UK duathlon scene as multisport racing returns to normal.
The event on the 17th October will also include a 12km trail run for those who would like to enjoy the run around the reservoir, without the challenge of the bike.
