St Neots’ Triathlon Series
Join us for the second of the three-race St Neots’ Triathlon Series this May. Whether you are an experienced athlete looking for a very fast time, or you are a novice competitor looking for a safe and friendly venue for your first open water triathlon, then the St Neots’ triathlons are ideal.
The swim takes place in the beautiful River Ouse, followed by a bike course that takes you through some of the most scenic villages in the area finishing with a run around the Riverside Park. The venue has very easy access to the local town that is a two minute walk away.
This is a non-draft legal race with an option of a Super Sprint (400m swim, 8km bike, 2.5km run), Sprint (750m swim, 24km bike, 5km run) and Standard distance (1500m swim, 45km bike, 10km run). There is also the chance to team up with friends for a standard distance relay, with one person completing each discipline.
The triathlon will begin at 07:50am. This will be a time trial format start, depending on covid restrictions. Swimmers will start one at a time, in a rolling start format, with the fastest predicted swim times being set off first. The results will be based entirely on chip-timing, not gun time.
Many people are understandably nervous regarding entering events again and we want to assure you that we take every measure we can to organise a safe, socially distanced event. To see this in action watch our video Covid-19 Safety at ActiveTrainingWorld Running and Triathlon Events
We want you to book with confidence so, if this event can no longer go ahead, and an alternative date isn’t found, you will be offered a virtual run or a refund of your entry fee. (Booking fees are non-refundable)
Relay entries also available on standard distance.

SWIM (Super Sprint: 1 x Half Lap ; Sprint: 1 x Full Lap ; Standard: 2 x Full Lap)
Super Sprint: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1380974?units=km
The swim course starts with a downstream swim. Throughout the Swim keep the large central buoys to your right. You return up stream still with the large central buoys to your right. The last central buoy should be passed and immediately turn right back to the river bank where you will exit the water to transition. The Standard distance swim will complete two laps before turning to the bank.
TRANSITION AND MOUNT (Racks will be numbered)
Run into transition, find your bike, do not touch your bike until you have put you cycle helmet on and fastened it. Run with your bike out of transition via the exit marked with “bike out” signs. Do not get on your bike until you reach the marked mount line. Remember at this point your race number should be displayed on your back.
BIKE (Super Sprint: 2 x Short Laps ; Sprint: 1 x Large Lap ; Standard: 2 x Large Laps)
Super Sprint: https://www.plotaroute.com/route/1380927?units=km
Once on your bike leave the park with a left hand turn taking extreme care as you join the carriage way. The bike course is on open roads with no road closures so ensure you follow the Highway Code at all times. This event is a non-drafting race i.e. you cannot take shelter behind or beside another competitor or motor vehicle and will be penalized if reported to be drafting.
Look out for the signs and marshals to keep you on the right course! Pay particular attention on the country lanes and at the junctions. It’s YOUR responsibility to know the course, do not rely on signs and marshals. Although it is very well signed and marshalled. There are speed bumps and traffic calming areas.
Extreme caution is needed upon entering the town as you go down Bushmead hill; it has a sharp and blind left roundabout turn at the bottom. On the approach to this junction you will be required to enter a filter lane which will help you negotiate the turn safely, the filter lane is MANDATORY and only wide enough for 1 bike at a time. There will be marshals to help and warn you of the filter lane, BUT anyone not using the filter will be reported to the race official and a time penalty maybe awarded. So its worth getting it right.
Once back into the park you will dismount your bike before the marked dismount line and run with your bike to the entrance marked bike in, rack it the same place you removed it from, you may then remove you helmet. Then run out will be at the opposite end of transition marked with “RUN OUT” signs. Ensure your race number is now facing forwards.
RUN Laps of 2.5k (Super Sprint 1 lap, Sprint 2 laps, Standard 4 laps)
Exit the transition and turn immediately right and follow the marked course (flags/ arrows/ and tapes) you may run on either the path or grass next to the path, your choice. Marshals will be on all turns. Please remember the paths are open to the public, please be courteous. As you near the final stages of the run please ensure you go down the finish straight and not on for more laps than needed !
Need help with your running? Whether this is your first triathlon and you want to know how to prepare, or you are looking to smash your personal best – following a training plan will increase your chances of achieving your goals.
