The Bovingdon Beast Duathlon
JOIN US FOR THE BOVINGDON BEAST DUATHLON ON SUNDAY 7TH MARCH 2021.
As part of our winter series of Duathlons ( including The Ashridge Duathlon – 24 January 2021, The Dorney Duathlon – 7 February, and The Essex Duathlon – 14 February), we are very excited to launch this course that combines a flat and fast run course with a bike course that really does live up to the race’s name!
Challenge yourself with either a Sprint (5.3km-22km-2.7km) or Standard (9.3km-38km-4.7km) consisting of traffic free, flat, tarmac running, around the Drift Limits motor racing circuits and beautiful, yet beastly, cycling in the Chilterns.
The bike course for each race features and out and back to a 1 (Sprint), or 3 (Standard) lap course that features the fearsome 600m climb of Eskdale Avenue, averaging 8.6% (https://www.strava.com/segments/1293786), helping this course earn its name…..and fearsome reputation.
The initial out and back section includes a short stretch on a dual-carriageway, and hence all bikes must display a rear red light.
The Standard duathlon will begin at 8:00am in a time trial format with the athletes with the fastest predicted times going off first. The start line for the first run will be similar to a Formula 1 starting grid with athletes being kept socially distanced on the start line and starting in small waves.
The Sprint duathlon will start at 9:00am in the same format.
Many people are understandably nervous regarding entering events again and we want to assure you that we take every measure we can to organise a safe, socially distanced event. To see this in action watch our video Covid-19 Safety at ActiveTrainingWorld Running and Triathlon Events
We want you to book with confidence so, if this event can no longer go ahead, and an alternative date isn’t found, you will be offered a virtual run or a refund of your entry fee. (Booking fees are non-refundable)

The run uses traffic free, flat, tarmac loops, around the Drift Limits motor racing circuits, varying from 0.5km-2km in distance, perfect for fast running.
The beastly bike ride for each race is less friendly. The Beast creeps up on unsuspecting victims with a straight A-road stretch (all bikes must be fitted with a rear red light), before undertaking either 1 lap (Sprint), or 3 laps (Standard), of beautiful, but challenging Chilterns cycling. Don’t be fooled by its beauty though, as one climb in particular, the formidable 8.3% Jolly Eskdale Hill, out of Chesham makes the event worthy of the name – ‘The Beast’. Once your laps are completed you can flee The Beast, along the reverse of the route you took out towards the lap.
